Projects Software Engineer Job Description

At Astech Projects, we are in the business of designing and supplying automation to laboratory and advanced manufacturing industries across the world. We believe automation is an enabling tool that can empower anyone and we are striving to become a leading global technology provider for problems that can be addressed in this way.

We are looking for someone who has a degree in any of the STEM categories, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and ideally you’ll be strong in all of these areas or certainly curious to find out more and can demonstrate an aptitude to do so. Ideally, we’d like someone who has had some exposure to elements of computer science because we believe this is a blend of all aspects of STEM and encapsulates some of the key skills we are looking for. Basically, this role is ideal for someone who likes to create new software, solve computing problems and develop different ways to use technology. We typically use robotics to solve the problems our customers present to us, so you’d need to be excited about using some of the latest cutting-edge products on the market and be ready to learn quickly. If you enjoy playing with Arduinos, Raspberry Pi’s, Lego Mindstorms, creating websites, building robotic kits from scratch or anything similar to these, you may just find this job is what you’ve been looking for!

At Astech Projects, you will work with the dedicated Software projects team but also work within larger multidiscipline teams and be responsible for the software and application design, implement, commission and testing of our robotics applications for a variety of big name clients. Many of these are located abroad so you’d need to be willing to travel some of the time. Any experience of interfacing with hardware, within a laboratory or other industries would be desirable but is by no means essential. The ideal candidate is someone who can prove to us that they are genuinely excited by STEM and willing to learn, which we’ll support all the way. In addition to this, we are looking for someone who values quality and reliability but is not afraid to take risks and push the boundaries of technology to ultimately to solve problems and deliver the best solution. We want a team player, who enjoys collaborating and sharing ideas but is equally comfortable working autonomously and intuitively to get the work done.

Responsibilities

* Working as part of a multidiscipline team using skills to specify design, implement, commission and test specialist robotic applications, controlled using C# for the Drug Delivery, Industrial Automation and Laboratory Automation industries.

* Programming Robotic arms using their native software which is typically a procedural language

* Regular communication with others involved in the development process using our Project tools

* Development of functional, software and test specifications

* Implement, test and bug-fix functionality

* Provide support to end users through our internal REACTS support team

Essential Requirements

* Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics Degree

* Able to develop technical solutions to meet project and customer expectations

* Proficient with C#.NET or a similar object-orientated languages

* Familiarity with SQL Server and/or Oracle

* Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines

* Good client facing skills

* Willing to travel in UK, Europe and USA

Desirable Requirements

* Degree in computer science or equivalent

* Knowledge of GAMP

* Experience with applications development in a machine control environment

* Knowledge of electrical control systems

* Ability to configure complex servo drive systems.

* Exposure to Industry 4.0 technologies

* PLC/HMI programming experience

* Experience with ABB/Staubli/Motorman robot arm software applications.

* Sales support to generate proposal cost estimates.

* A level or equivalent qualification in Physics and/or Applied Maths
