Many of today’s manufacturing processes rely on batch processing methods and batch testing to evaluate quality prior to release. A significant proportion of these processes could benefit from the introduction of in-process measurements. Developing an effective, well designed manufacturing process allows real time in process measurements to be used to control and monitor the manufacturing process, thereby offering real time quality assurance. This can remove or, at least, reduce the need for batch testing and therefore allow manufacturers to deliver high quality products to market in a shorter timeframe with improved efficiency and longer shelf life.
